Dear Friends,
As we welcome the New Year in 2011, we hope 2010 has left you with a lasting impression to cherish.

The global financial market was continuously characterised by the recovery led by the Asian markets, and in one of the shortest time-spans, has staged the most remarkable recovery in the history of the financial markets. There is also a stark contrast in people’s confidence as compared to the markets two years ago. Many have put the crisis behind them as they start to indulge in a quality lifestyle.

The lesson learnt from this episode must not be forgotten as we move forward to face yet another exciting economic environment. Our financial habits must now surely include diversification, planning and managing our assets well, preparing for contingencies and managing our spending prudently.

And while we continue to pursue our goals and interests in life, let us also take time to invest in relationships with people.

Apart from some occasional disappointment, investing in relationships is one of the few investments in life that will surely offer a comfortable return. Unfortunately, little is talked about in the media about building relationships, as the overwhelming consideration for financial independence and success tends to dominate the subject matter.

And just like the regular savings plan we advocate to investors, investing time to build relationships in life also requires regular input. Sudden spurts of effort to build relationships, done in a haphazard manner, will not yield result. Instead, the recipient will only sense insincerity from these superficial gestures. As a matter of fact, isn’t some of the most important pursuits in life attributed to achieving a better life for and with the people we care about? Going by that argument, our objective in life must typically involve the relationships that matter most!

At First Principal, lasting relationships certainly matter to us. We wish all our clients and readers a fruitful and meaningful year ahead.

Sincere Regards,
